I believe that many of us learned about Peg, and in turn Astrid, by following James. It's a delight to share treasures amongst friends.

And I met James when my mother said some guy from Minneapolis was coming to interview her, but she couldn’t remember his name, and I tracked him down on Twitter. I flew over kind of to vet him before he went to the house since she was always inviting everybody under the sun to stay there without knowing them. He of course turned out to be legit. And I think she would’ve liked it that James and I have gone on to perform her comedies together on stage.

I know that I like that you and James have performed her comedies on stage - even if I can't get to them in person from California!

You never know. We might just be planning a tour.

So true! Peg was definitely a genius. I only found out about her by following Margaret Hamilton's career, and what a happy discovery to stumble on another icon. And I asked myself, how have I not heard of this woman? Why don't I recognize the name Peg Lynch? I thought the queen of sitcom was Lucy! Lo and behold hearing from Ms. King share that she wrote, produced, and OWNED her own sitcoms, the mother of the sitcom. No syndication meant no reruns (I think that's how that works?) The Internet is a beautiful tool that can be used to bring back the past and I love what Mr. Lileks and Ms. King (among others I've heard) are doing. We should spread the word. We should share Peg's work. It still hits today. I remember listening to The Couple Next Door and just felt like this is legit and relevant. The interactions are authentic and, as stated, everyone is so likable!

Loved this comment and been meaning to write back to you but been dealing with a blind dog and trips to the vet. I am now almost £300 poorer and the dog has no better sight but still, I get to put four kinds of drops into her eyes four times a day for another £140.

Peg. Yes. An extraordinary woman who accomplished extraordinary things. Have you by any chance listened or looked at the private life of Peg Lynch podcasts on her Peg Lynch comedy YouTube channel? James and I put those together.

I’m also getting her autobiography out (yes, “she” is writing it). Also in the works are getting her half hour comedies currently in kinescope format cleaned and digitised. Also in the works are…. You name it. I’ve got so many Peg projects juggling here. I sometimes don’t know whether it’s day or night. But I do know I need to get her name back out there. Thank you for your support, Meg.

What a perfectly expressed tribute to your mother’s genius. She was truly remarkable. Thanks for posting this.

I'm behind reading entries because my sister & I were planning a birthday party for our mother, who turned 90 on June 9th; the event was complicated because we had to put her in a memory care facility at the beginning of the year, and indeed she was in and out as to who most of us were, and to the degree she knew this was her birthday, she worried a great deal about her parents and when they would arrive, which didn't happen for exactly the reason one would infer for a 90 year old. Taking a deep breath this morning, it was a pleasure to read the James Lileks tribute again as part of the day, plus I have one more to look forward to reading now . . . happy birthday to Astrid, if belated!

You will be pleased to know that you did NOT miss my birthday, you can celebrate in your own fashion on the 18th. I’m glad you went ahead and gave your mama a party. It’ll register on some level!
